5 Horror Movie Characters Who Should Have Died (And 5 We Wish Hadn’t)

8. We Wish Hadn't: Lee Abbott - A Quiet Place

Scream/ A Quiet Place

The Abbott family encounter many tragedies during the runtime of this post-apocalyptic horror hit, an excellent film which examines how society might function while its members are hunted by mysterious, murderous monsters. As the title implies, these extraterrestrial beasts can locate their victims through sound, and even the smallest peep can attract these alien hunters.

The film begins with the unsettling and tragic death of Beau Abbott (Cade Woodward), the youngest member of the family. Beau's death completely devastates his father, Lee (John Krasinski), who consequently falls into a deep depression. Regardless, the intelligent and resilient Lee continues to put every effort into bravely protecting his family.

Aiding the family in adapting to living in total silence, Lee constructs a series of intricate, well-crafted alarms and systems in order to increase their chances of survival.

In the end, it is precisely Lee's resilience, bravery, and self-sacrificial nature which leads to his demise, and he sacrifices himself in order to save his children. Lee's death raises some uncomfortable questions. Notably, the audience is left wondering how his wife and children might survive without their crafty and courageous patriarch.
