5 Horror Movie Characters Who Should Have Died (And 5 We Wish Hadn’t)

5. Should Have Died: Paxton Rodriguez - Hostel

Scream/ A Quiet Place
Lionsgate

This excessively gruesome torture-porn flick charts the misadventures of a group of tourists who find themselves in a murderous hostel in Slovakia while backpacking through Europe.

Paxton (Jay Hernandez), Josh (Derek Richardson), and Oli (Eyþór Guðjónsson) are subjected to torture, extreme violence, and, in the case of Oli and Josh, are brutally killed. However, Paxton is eventually able to escape, ultimately surviving the twisted events of the first film.

In the sequel, however, a traumatized Paxton, who is living as a recluse with his girlfriend, is actually killed offscreen in the opening act. That Paxton dies so quickly (and brutally - his girlfriend discovers his headless corpse in their apartment) in the sequel raises some questions: What was the point in Paxton surviving the first film?

Furthermore, while the film does heavily imply that Paxton suffered death by decapitation, we do not actually see his death onscreen. Much like Alex's offscreen death in Final Destination 2, Paxton's fate is thus ultimately underwhelming.

Surely it would have been more interesting, and, of course, more delightfully gory, if Paxton had just died onscreen in the first film?
