5 Horror Novels That Deserve Film Adaptations (And 5 That Deserve Better)

4. The Pilo Family Circus - Deserves Adaptation

My Best Friends Exorcism
ABC Books

Intense and upsetting, The Pilo Family Circus is the 2006 novel debut of Australian author Will Elliot.

A deeply unsettling story of a man tormented and eventually kidnapped by satanic clowns, the novel manages to mix elements of Trainspotting's Irvine Welsh, Fight Club's Chuck Palahnuik, and even horror icon HP Lovecraft into its strange DNA.

Whether it's read as a metaphor for addiction and recovery, mental illness, or simply as a straight up hallucinatory nightmare, this novel is filled with strange and horrifying imagery which would work perfectly on the big screen. Good luck getting the image of a grinning clown tucking in to a bucket of teeth as if it is popcorn out of your head any time soon.
