5 Huge Ramifications Of Fantastic Four Being A Total Disaster

4. The Future Of Josh Trank's Career Looks Dubious

You can't help but feel for Josh Trank. Whether or not the blame should rest entirely on his shoulders (and many reports suggest that he isn't entirely at fault for the finished product), it's sad to see a clearly talented director having such a terrible time in Hollywood. Off the back of Chronicle (an admittedly good superhero yarn), Trank was positioned for greatness: suddenly everyone wanted to work with him, and his name became attached to both the Fantastic Four and then a freakin' Star Wars movie. Talk about a big break, right? But in the last few months, weird reports starting emerging: Trank was labelled as being reclusive and difficult to work with, and all of a sudden he wasn't working on Star Wars. Then there were the rumours that Trank and 20th Century Fox had fallen out over the final cut of Fantastic Four - that he wasn't happy with their interfering (which makes sense, given the final product). Now, his name has come to feel like a kind of cinematic poison; the promising young director of Chronicle got throw off a Star Wars flick and made the worst superhero movie ever? That doesn't look good, no matter how things really went down. It didn't help that Trank also sent out an incredibly controversial tweet in the aftermath of the film's release. It was estimated by box office analysts that this tweet cost the movie $10 million dollars at the box office. It already feels like he's destined for one of those "one-hit wonder" lists featuring directors who blew their careers after a single film: Michael Cimino, John Singleton... Josh Trank?
