5 Interesting A24 Movies Destined For Critical Acclaim In 2020
2. Saint Maud
This psychological horror about a nurse who fears that she's been possessed sounds like an instant A24 classic. They have unbelievable form when it comes to horror films, all of their releases sharing a similar aesthetic. As the trailer for Saint Maud reminds viewers, A24 has delivered The Witch, Hereditary, and Midsommar to name a few of the flicks that have put audiences us through the wringer in recent years. Each being uncomfortable in the extreme.
Directors at the helm of A24 horrors tend to be deft hands at conveying the internal struggles of their characters on screen. Saint Maud is the feature debut for director Rose Glass, her previous filmography up until this point being a series of accomplished shorts. (Interested readers may be interested in checking out Room 55 for an idea of her style.) Morfydd Clark plays the title character, a religious woman with a dark past on the brink of martyrdom.
While we expect this to be a properly star-making turn for Clark, you may already know her from The Personal History of David Copperfield. She is also set to follow in the footsteps of Cate Blanchett by playing iconic character Galadriel in the TV adaptation of The Lord of the Rings that is scheduled to hit our screens next year.
