5 Justice League Problems Aquaman's First Trailer DIDN'T Fix
WAHOOOOOOOOOO. Stop it.
Let's just get one thing straight immediately, the Comic Con trailer for Aquaman did a lot to turn the hype dial up. It looks epic and weird and entertaining - owing a lot more to Wonder Woman than to the comparatively disastrous Justice League. Or at least we can hope so, anyway.
But that doesn't mean there aren't some niggling issues with it that might raise some red flags for fans who wantr nothing more than for it to succeed. Perhaps it's because of the fact that it's still part of the DCEU, but Aquaman still does feel like it's tied to Justice League a little more than we should be comfortable with.
And while there's something to be said for creative continuity, if you're anchoring something to a bad thing, you're not giving it the best head start. So it's well worth exploring the ways that first trailer suggests Aquaman might not have quite got over the issues presented by Justice League...
5. The Colour Palette
Seriously, what is it with Warner Bros, the DCEU and the colour red at the moment? Justice League's finale was ruined aesthetically by the incredibly stupid idea to paint the sky red and it looks like they're still banging that same artistic drum on that front, particularly in the battle sequences.
As if we couldn't figure out the baddies for ourselves, James Wan seems to have gone with the same Justice League convention of highlighting villains with red, and punctuating dangerous moments with it too. It's like he (and Snyder and Whedon before him) are trying to pull an M Night Shyamalan, only with far less subtlety than he did in The Sixth Sense.
You'd think Wan would resist anything that drew immediate comparisons to Justice League, but here we are.
