5 Justice League Problems Aquaman's First Trailer DIDN'T Fix

4. The Jarring Jokes

Justice League might have NEEDED a little levity to drag the entire DCEU out of the grumpy doldrums that Man Of Steel and (particularly) Batman v Superman had dumped it in, but it was a particularly divisive element for some fans. And it really didn't help that some of the jokes stuck out like a sore thumb as having been added later by Joss Whedon to lighten things up.

Jokes are fine and levity is fine when it's organically built into the script and isn't cynically designed for cheap thrills, but when it's not built in properly, it feels poorly conceived. Like Aquaman and Bruce Wayne's exchange in Justice League, for instance...

Arthur Curry: "Strong man is strongest alone." You ever heard of that?Bruce Wayne: That's not a saying. That's the opposite of what the saying is.

And unfortunately, it looks like it's happening again. That "that was the worst pep talk, like EVER" line is very much from the same school of writing, and while some will have been delighted by it, the goat reaction shot from the very end of the trailer is just awfully jarring.
