5 Kaiju We DEFINITELY Won't See In Godzilla's Monsterverse
1. Mechagodzilla
Of all the monsters on this list, Mechagodzilla's inclusion may be the most disappointing for fans. Mechagodzilla has been a fan favorite since the early 1970's, but you should not expect to see the character in Legendary's Monsterverse.
There have been several iterations of Mechagodzilla since his introduction. Mechagodzilla has been retconned in every era, with origins ranging from alien cyborg created to conquer Earth to an international countermeasure to Godzilla, much like the Jaegers in the Pacific Rim Franchise.
Unlike Pacific Rim, however, the Legendary's commitment to a grounded universe makes including Mechagodzilla nearly impossible. During the second trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we are shown a Senate Committee hearing suggesting mankind is entering an alliance with Godzilla, so a creation specifically created to antagonize him doesn't seem like a fit.
Even if Godzilla were to become a villain, there are more believable options available than a giant robot. The most notable of options being the Oxygen Destroyer, which was used to kill Godzilla in the original 1954 film. The Oxygen Destroyer was even teased by Godzilla: King of the Monsters Director Mike Dougherty, posted an image of the weapon on his Twitter account last year.
Mankind may one day turn against Godzilla, but don't expect to see it take the form of Mechagodzilla if it does.
