5 Mouth-Watering Movie Meals (And 5 That Will Make Your Stomach Churn)

3. The Old 96er - The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors Steak The highlight of an annoyingly and surprisingly disappointing film that paired Dan Aykroyd and John Candy at the peak of their comedy powers presents the antithesis of Jake LaMotta's charcoal steak. Candy, looking larger than ever, perhaps to take emphasis away from Aykroyd's own hearty girth, volunteers to take on The Old 96er challenge - a 96 ounce prime, aged beef steak. Served on the bone and presented on a slab, it is a mammoth mountain of juicy, succulent beef that Candy diligently gorges on. Yes, the tail end of the scene with the remaining grizzle on the plate and Candy's subsequent regurgitation of cow could probably have made it into the other category, but being a beef-nut - and the fact you don't seen the projectile vomit - the preceding food porn that is the slab of 96 ounces makes this a worthy entry on my list of mouth-watering moments.

Frustratingly argumentative writer, eater, reader and fanatical about film ‘n’ food and all things fundamentally flawed. I have been a member of the WhatCulture family since it was known as Obsessed with Film way back in the bygone year of 2010. I review films, festivals, launch events, award ceremonies and conduct interviews with members of the ‘biz’. Follow me @FilmnFoodFan In 2011 I launched the restaurant and food criticism section. I now review restaurants alongside film and the greatest rarity – the food ‘n’ film crossover. Let your imaginations run wild as you mull on what that might look like!
