5 Movie Box Office Bombs That Were Actually Really Good

1. Children Of Men

The Postman Kevin Costner
Universal Pictures

Whether it's Valerian: The City of a Thousand Planets, The International or in this case, Children of Men, Clive Owen can't seem to get that big box office break he rightfully deserves. Although the quality of Valerian and The International is debated by film fans furiously, nobody is questioning Children of Men's stature.

Starring Julianne Moore, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Caine alongside Clive Owen, this British Sci-Fi set on the brink of human extinction gives the genre an entirely new perspective. It has been 18 years since a child was born and Britain is the only country left standing between organised civilisation and global anarchy. Theo Faron (Clive Owen) is enlisted by ex-wife and revolution leader Julian (Julianne Moore) to escort a pregnant girl to safety amidst rising tensions between terrorist groups and law enforcement.

With a compelling original story, fantastic acting and a remarkably distinct perspective on screenplay, this box office bomb has become iconic. Children of Men doesn't have a gleaming, clean or glistening perspective of the future. Instead, it casts a critical eye on a broken, polluted and overwhelmingly ordinary future. This incredible outlook on what a Sci-Fi can be has earned Children of Men an incredible cult classic status.

Too bad back in 2005 it only made $35 million domestic on a $76 million budget.
