1. Every Peter Sellers Moment In Trial Of The Pink Panther Is Deleted Scenes From A Previous Film
At some point during the production of Trial Of The Pink Panther youd think someone would have realised something didnt want the film to be made. Deciding to recast David Niven as Sir Charles Lytton, aka jewel thief The Phantom (back from the days when Clouseau wasnt the star) looked to rejuvenate the long running series, but proved a little short sighted when it became apparent the aging actor was unable to do his lines; Rich Little had to be brought in to dub him. Thats nothing next to the big shocker; the star of the film had been dead eighteen months before production began. Peter Sellers died before filming could start on Romance Of The Pink Panther, leaving the series open ended in its future. Wed already had another Clouseau (Alan Arkin played the bumbling detective in the imaginatively titled Inspector Clouseau), but while that would be the eventual future (and demise) of the character, first series supremo Blake Edwards tried something different. Not involved with Romance, he threw out that story and went ahead with a new project where Clouseau was made up entirely of unused elements of Sellers performance in The Pink Panther Strikes Again some five years before. Incredibly creative it may be, the film didn't connect with audiences, despite being sold as the comedians final performance, and set a trend for increasingly bad films in the series.
