5 Movies That Changed Your Mind About Directors You Hated
2. The Disaster Artist
Though he hasn't made huge blockbusters, James Franco has been a pretty prolific director for quite a few years now. Unfortunately, as fans of the comedian will no doubt know if they've ever tried to get into his behind-the-camera work, Franco's output has been eclectic, to say the least.
Opting to choose more experimental projects over those in the studio system, the director's work on movies like the adaptation of William Faulkner's As I Lay Dying and Cormac McCarthy's Child of God have been poorly received, lacking the charm and charisma Franco brings to his acting roles.
The Disaster Artist, however, changed that entirely. Not only was it a movie which won over audiences, both in the film's inherently funny premise but also in the pathos the director brought to the script, but it was also a hit with critics, storming the awards season with one nomination after another.
It was Franco's first real break behind the camera, and should mark a new chapter in his career away from the controversial - and pretty shoddy - projects that used to define him.
