5 Movies That Use Mysticism As The Deus Ex Machina

2. Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Originally a ride at Disneyland with no cursed treasure involved. They were simply rowdy pirates with the historic Jean Laffite. Jack Sparrow and the cursed treasure were invented for the movie. Surprisingly un-Disney-like, Johnny Depp based his character's mannerisms off of Keith Richards and Loony Tune's Pepe Le Peu. At the beginning of the movie, Elizabeth Swan rescued Will Turner - who happened to be wearing a medallion of the stolen treasure that his father sent him from the cursed Black Pearl - and wear it 16 years later where she happened to fall off of a battlement, sending a pulse through the ocean alerting the cursed pirates of its location. As if that wasn't enough when Elizabeth Swan happened to get rescued by the one pirate who was booted off the ship before the curse took effect who wants to get said ship back. That was a mouthful. Just saying that all lined up very neatly. Is this the start or the end? For the pirates, this is the end.
