5 Movies You Didn’t Know Were Written By Famous Directors

1. Toy Story (Joss Whedon)

Joss Whedon has a devout fan base, to say the least. He has created several beloved franchises such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly (to but name a few). More recently, he directed the #3 highest earning movie of all time, The Avengers, which smashed records left and right, cementing Marvel€™s success at the box office.

Before the Buffy TV series, Joss also helped launch a then-new animation studio called Pixar. The movie? Toy Story. At the time, 3D animation was still in its infancy with 2D ruling the silver screens everywhere. Pixar was seen as a bit of a risk, having only produced short films made to promote their computers at the time. After reaching a deal with Disney, work began on Toy Story, going through numerous drafts before reaching a plot that resembles the one we saw in the final film.

Towards the end of this script development process, Joss Whedon was brought on board since most of the people at Pixar weren€™t exactly script majors. Joss rewrote the script, keeping much of the story in place but helping to give more of a voice to iconic characters like Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Rex (who was his creation). After Toy Story was a big success, Pixar was on their way to becoming the new kings of animation. And Joss? Well, we all know what Joss has been up to since then.
