5 Obstacles We Can No Longer Accept In Horror Movies

1. Where's Fido?

Doghead Everyone loves a dog. Not everyone loves when a dog is killed in a horror movie. In fact, I don't think anyone likes when a dog is killed in a horror movie. Now, the killing of the family pet is a pretty interesting reveal about the story behind the serial killer we're dealing with. It takes a very deranged person to murder an animal, especially a family pet. We can no longer accept seeing the aftermath, though. It's okay to be told that someone found "Fifi" in the backyard, dead as a doornail, but in movies like Fear, Urban Legends, and the 2013 remake of Evil Dead, audiences are just not accepting of finding the carcass when one of the characters does. It's unnerving and is more upsetting than anything else that the writers have taken the time to actually write. We are so jaded by horror movies that seeing a man rip out a chick's breast implant with their bare hands would be hilarious to us. But when it comes to killing Roofus, you better think twice before you film it. You'll lose viewers and you'll be the movie that no one can remember anything for except the severed dog head.

I am a college graduate of Penn State with two bachelors in the arts. When I'm not writing or performing, I am an SFX make-up artist for local up and coming films in the Houston area. I love horror movies, James Spader, and will watch anything suggested to me.
