5 Oscars 2016 Nominations They Got Right (And 5 They Got Wrong)

2. No Best Picture Nom For Inside Out

Only three animated films have ever been nominated for Best Picture - Beauty and the Beast, Up, and Toy Story 3 - and none have won. It's the blessing and the curse of the Animated category: it means there is a place for animated films to get some recognition, but mostly treats them as though they're vastly different, or worse, inferior. While Inside Out may be different, it's anything but inferior. The film is innovative, it's funny, it's sweet, it's heartbreaking, it has a dazzling array of characters who go through their own journey while the person whose head they're inside of goes through hers, and it tells the story about emotions and how we deal with them at an incredibly pivotal point of our lives better than pretty much any live-action film I can think of. It was the best film of 2015, but somehow hasn't found its way onto the Best Picture list.
