5 Oscars 2016 Nominations They Got Right (And 5 They Got Wrong)
1. The Mad Max Love
After The Revenant, a film that came out in the middle of awards season and is the sort of one you'd expect to see nominated, the film with the most nominations - and the only other one to receive double figures - is Mad Max: Fury Road. What a lovely day! Most of its nominations come in technical categories, which show just what an incredible feat of filmmaking this stunning, bombastic, beautifully insane movie was. However, it's also in the running for Best Picture and, even better, Best Director. George Miller is 70-years-old, and his most recent films were Happy Feet and its sequel. Somehow, returning to the long-thought-dead franchise, he has produced one of the best action movies of at least the decade, and one very few other directors would even attempt, much less pull off.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
