5 Pixar Movies That Are More For Adults Than Children

The movies we love as children often lose some of their shine as we get older. In the case of The Incredibles, the exact opposite is true.

It’s remarkable how much of this animated feature is aimed at adults. Bob’s frustration at the monotony of his day job is a frighteningly accurate portrayal of how many white-collar workers feel in the modern world. And though Bob is the centre point of the film, all of the Parr family are rooted in realism.

What’s more, his relationship with Helen is highly authentic. Their heated argument after one of Bob’s attempts to relive the glory days is brilliantly written and performed. It’s so realistic you completely forget you’re watching an animation.

There’s also a number of surprisingly dark story beats. During the film, viewers witness a suicide attempt, a corrupt insurance company, sexual tension, children being shot at, and a psychotic villain who turns out to be a serial killer.

Whilst Incredibles 2 is a great sequel, the original movie is unmatched in terms of its authenticity and dark tone. Sure, it can still be enjoyed by children, but it’s the adults who really connect with the story.

Love to read and write. Have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter. Enjoy running up hills.
