5. A Non-Princess Protagonist From Brave
While not being a perfect film, Brave did a lot of things well. Most notably, it finally gave us a female character at the center of a Pixar story. But, in true Disney tradition, the young woman was a princess. Can I get a quick show of hands of all the princesses out there reading this? Anyone? Yes, the royalty angle played a part in the story, but I dont think it was a necessary part. So lets revisit this lush Scottish landscape while we focus on a girl in a more normal family. Perhaps the daughter of the local blacksmith. The morals and tones of the film could be similar. We could have the blacksmith wanting his daughter to grow up to be a respectable lady and marry well, but she could want to follow in his footsteps, having hung out in his shop since birth. Im picturing a satisfying scene where the girl secretly crafts an impressive sword that is then personally selected by the most famous knight in the land. Or the Disney folks could get creative and introduce a complete fresh storyline. I think as long as they have a strong and ambitious female lead and retain the gorgeous deep green colors, they can get a lot of the same audience that helped Brave gross over half a billion at the worldwide box office. The inclusion of a character transforming into an animal is optional.
