5 Popular Movies That Almost Had Stupidly Different Titles

4. Field of Dreams Was Originally Called Shoeless Joe

Field Of Dreams is 1989 Kevin Costner Vehicle, about a farmer who can see the apparitions of long dead baseball players in a baseball pitch he€™s built because some voice told him to. Because, you know, his wife thinks that€™s totally fine for her farmer husband to destroy their crop and livelihoods because a voice and vision told him to and that totally isn€™t mental illness or anything. Anyway, (spoilers) long story short, he builds it, suffers a few obstacles and is reunited at the end with his long dead Daddy. Cue credits, inevitable sobs and lifted spirits. Field Of Dreams is a wonderful title, it shows that Costner literally built a field of dreams in the movie, but metaphorically means that by following his heart, he allowed his dreams to be fielded. Or something. So imagine this movie was called Shoeless Joe instead. Shoeless Joe Jackson is a very famous baseball player from the early 20th century. And Costner wasn€™t even playing Shoeless Joe. OK, so as an Englishman my knowledge of baseball relies solely on the seminal Simpson€™s episode Homer At The Bat. But to me, if I went to see this movie starring Costner called Shoeless Joe, I would have assumed it would be a knockabout comedy about the hilarious scrapes of a hobo. Imagine my disappointment then that the movie would be a romantic sports fantasy drama cunningly designed to cover all demographics. Someone wisely, and obviously, pointed this out and the rest is history.
