5 Popular Movies That Almost Had Stupidly Different Titles

3. Blade Runner Was Originally Called Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep

blade runner poster Harrison Ford, you beautiful man you. How have you done it? Do you even realise what you€™ve done? You€™re Han Solo, Indiana Jones and various Presidents in different movies and we couldn€™t love you more for it. Your sense of self-deprecation recently shown on The Jimmy Kimmel Show was proof you still got it. And of course, who could forget Blade Runner? Blade Runner was polarising in its time, but like most marmite movies, it quickly grew to have a devoted cult following and set the template for many dystopian fantasy films to follow such as Total Recall, Gattaca and The Matrix. A mere 11 years after its release, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Quite the achievement. But would it have been the same if it were laughingly called Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? Now granted, this was the original title of the Philip K. Dick short story on which Blade Runner is based. But who thought in the early stages that this would roll off the audience€™s tongue? After realising their mistake top execs, who we must not forget are paid in gold bullion and Cuban cigars, thought up new titles such as Dangerous Days, Androids or my personal favourite; Mechanismo. Mechanismo! Let that glorious word sink in for a second. Eventually they realised that Han Solo€™s job in this film was a Blade Runner and they thought it sounded cool so they named the movie that, took lunch and went jet-skiing with hookers. Probably.

2. Pretty Woman Was Originally Called 3000

pretty woman This doesn€™t need my hilarious take on this one that much, because this slide practically writes itself into the annals of internet comedy history. This Julia Roberts vehicle about the highs and lows of a prostitute falling for her client Richard Gere was astonishingly successful. And of course, the title is inspired by the Roy Oribison classic Oh, Pretty Woman. But it wasn€™t always called this. Pretty Woman was originally titled 3000, due to the fact that€™s the sum that Gere pays Roberts for her services for the night. But, and here€™s the kicker, test audiences were confused by this title because they thought 3000 would be about hookers on the moon. Hookers on the freakin€™ moon. Now there€™s a movie I€™d happily watch.
