3. Alfonso Cuarón
Best known for directing the third and arguably best Harry Potter film, Cuarón went on to win further acclaim for the bleakly excellent Children of Men. His next has been a long-time coming but sees him tackle science fiction yet again as George Clooney and Sandra Bullock struggle to survive a space-set disaster in Gravity. Similar to Blomkamp in many ways Cuarón would have an advantage in the eyes of Trek producers having already directed a popular series threequel. His take on Trek would be interesting to say the least, and interesting is something Trek has and should continue to endeavour to be. Even if he doesn't get the job you can sure he'll keep popping up on similar lists until eventually he returns to the blockbuster landscape.
