4. Neill Blomkamp
An obvious choice but with his debut feature District 9 winning universal acclaim and Oscar-nominations, and his follow-up Elysium looking potentially every bit as good, Blomkamp is the reigning king of cinematic science fiction. His films also have a social-political slant that would perfectly fit with the Star Trek world. A Trek film would also give him a chance to flex his sci-fi muscles beyond the Earths orbit and into the far reaches of space. The only problem is that he seems to be a director most interested in telling his own stories, so the idea of taking on a major franchise sequel sounds unlikely. Wed certainly like to see it (especially with a villainous role for Sharlto Copley) but with Blomkamp seemingly unable to let go of the perpetually-in-stasis Halo movie his interests may well be elsewhere in the universe
