5 Questions That Must Be Answered By Warner Bros. On DC Film Announcement
3. What About Superman?
Superman fans are a patient bunch. They have waited a very long time for a truly fresh cinematic take on the character. Superman Returns failed to showcase why the character is still relevant in the modern world. Finally, it appears Man of Steel will remedy that problem. If Zack Snyder really has delivered the Superman franchise revival fans have been waiting for, they're not going to want to see it completely hijacked by a Justice League film. Sure, fans will enjoy seeing the character in his traditional leadership role on DC's flagship team, but they're not going to settle for one quality solo adventure. Warner Bros. needs to demonstrate a commitment to balancing the needs of the larger cinematic universe with those of the solo franchise. Providing a Man of Steel 2 release date will help, but there should be some talk of how these movies will be connected. What level of autonomy will individual franchises like Superman enjoy? There should be some reassurance that those who care about Superman first and foremost will be able to enjoy a series of Man of Steel films that build on each other without depending on the larger universe in which they are set.
