5. Different Look
The trouble with Schwarzenegger's post-political office films so far is that they have not tried to truly change the man's image. The Last Stand provided one strong dramatic scene and Escape Plan provided audiences with a crazy scene of the Terminator babbling in his native German, but ultimately these movies have not acknowledged that Schwarzenegger is a different icon at 66. These films have tried to make Schwarzenegger kick ass as hard as he did when he was at the top of his game, but the roles are ones he could've played twenty years ago. He's a different man now. His public image has been tarnished after his affair controversy, he's held political office to mixed results and he's an older man now. Sabotage looks to be the first film to want to photograph and show the actor in a different light. Director David Ayer has stated he wants his lens to view the action star differently and the trailer allows us to glimpse a Schwarzenegger that has a bold new look. It's not one that screams leading man or action star. It's one that screams normal. This may be the first film to present Schwarzenegger in a gritty light as a real guy in a tough situation. He ain't a superhero no more.
