5 Reasons Why Captain America Won't Die In Civil War

1. Marvel Don't Do Faithful Adaptations

Let me ask you a question: what do Extremis, Demon In The Bottle, Age Of Ultron and The Winter Soldier all have in common? Answer: their movie versions have been so unfaithful they make Tony Stark look like the perfect boyfriend. For all its translating of the tone of its comic book source to the big screen, at no point has the Marvel Cinematic Universe really excelled at actually adapting the stories. And that's fine enough - would The Avengers really have been better with Earth's Mightiest Heroes teaming up to fight Hulk in clown make up? However, despite this lengthy track record, people seem to think Captain America: Civil War will be different, translating the comic book to the screen panel-by-panel. Even after a trailer that bore little resemblance to the source and a status quo in the MCU that simply won't allow for many of the novel's major events, everyone's still expecting to see Spider-Man unmasked and Punisher turn up randomly and, biggest of all, for screen Steve Rogers to suffer a fate similar to his comic counterpart. But that just doesn't make sense. Nothing we've seen about the film thus far suggests we're getting anything close to the graphic novel, and that goes double for this narrative-altering twist. This is a film from the guys who turned the Mandarin into a punchline and made Jarvis first into an A.I., then The Vision, after all. Why would they suddenly pay strict attention to the comics now? Heck, Marvel have been so unfaithful at points that it feels like they're purposely doing the exact opposite to what was in the comics. So... Iron Man's going to die?
