5 Reasons Why Iron Man 3 Was Really Lethal Weapon 5

3. Gun Show

12280 When was the last time you saw RDJ wield a gun in a movie? That's right, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, but when was the last time you saw him wield a modern handgun in a movie? That's right, in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the film Shane Black wrote and directed before Iron Man 3. Now, Black may just have an affinity for characters toting handguns or he may have wanted to show the audience that Stark was just as resourceful without his Iron Man suit as he was with it. Whatever the reason may be, I have to admit I thought I'd never see a superhero, let alone the superhero with a weaponized suit, pick up a gun and shoot up bad guys. Lethal Weapon was also well known for shoot 'em up scenes in a time when the most advanced piece of weaponry was an armor-piercing round (Lethal Weapon 3). In Stark's world where an Iron Man suit, Hulks, Thors, and aliens are the norm, a simple handgun wouldn't have cut it, but Black and co-writer, Drew Pierce, did a good job of taking away what made Stark special, forcing him and Rhodes to go old school via Lethal Weapon. There's no doubt in my mind that LW5 would have featured more of the same shoot 'em up scenes that served the franchise so well.

I'm a thinker/fantasizer who writes down his thoughts and fantasies hoping it makes sense to everyone else. Also I'm an aspiring screenwriter, but if I can work in film at all, I'd be happy. One day you may hear the name Ryan Kim and associate it with "Academy Award winning writer" or with "where's that guy with my coffee." If the latter comes true, please let it be Paul Thomas Anderson's coffee I'm getting.
