3. People Want The Original Team
Columbia PicturesTaking out Egon and Venkman from the equation for a moment, that only leaves Dan Aykroyd's Ray Stantz and Ernie Hudson's Winston Zeddemore from the original team. While each brought their own unique dynamic to the group, neither could carry the film alone or together. Even if the two of them were to "pass the torch" to a new generation of Ghostbusters, the event wouldn't have the same weight as it would if the whole team was involved in doing so. For many people, the Ghostbusters team is more than just a mantle to be handed off. For 30 years, fans have enjoyed the specific, pitch-perfect assemblage of Venkman, Egon, Ray and Winston, with their particular energy being what really fuels the films. Most want to see another
Ghostbusters film to see the team in full back together again for another adventure, but with the loss of Ramis and the disinterest of Murray, the only option to carry on the franchise on film is the introduction of a new group. Despite what some may say, the original team is what people wanted to see for so many years after the release of
Ghostbusters II, as it was very much their show. Rather than pass the torch to a younger group of actors/comedians, the series should be left as it is so that said group can make their own iconic franchise instead of stepping into the shoes of those they'll only forever be compared to.
