4. No Bill Murray
The will he/won't he aspect of Bill Murray's relationship to the future of the franchise has left fans frustrated for years. While Murray has been game to not shun the series completely, as seen by his participation in 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game and his suiting up for the 2010 Scream Awards, his general disappointment over Ghostbusters II has soured his views on another full-fledged go-round. For many people, his Peter Venkman is a huge part in what makes the movies work, with Murray's comedic ability and natural likability helping turn Venkman into one of his most iconic roles. Like Egon, Venkman is a massive piece of the Ghostbusters' cinematic DNA, with the majority of general audiences whose experience with the franchise rests solely with the two films inevitably tying Murray to it. After a legacy of three decades that continues to spawn new fans, another entry in the Ghostbusters series would not be the same without Murray and Venkman in a substantial role, especially considering Murray's career is still going strong.
