5 Reasons Why We Love The Die Hard Film Series

4. The Bad Guys

diehardsimon The Die Hard franchise has given us arguably some of the best movie villains in history, from the malevolent Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber, the leader of the German terrorists who raided John McClane's Christmas party in the first film, through to his brother Simon, (portrayed by Jeremy Irons, pictured above) the charismatic wise-cracking German who puts Willis and Samuel L Jackson through a series of explosive-related "games" in the third film. Even the villainous Colonel Stuart (William Sadler) in Die Hard 2 and Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) in Die Hard 4.0 put in pretty sterling performances as the bad guys throughout the franchise, and if we've ever wanted to see a villain defenestrated more than Rickman's Hans Gruber, I'd be very surprised. From Alexander Godunov's Aryan psycho Karl to Sam Phillips' sadistic mute terrorist, some of cinema's greatest henchmen and bad guys can be found in the Die Hard franchise.
