5. Die Hard Is The Best Non-Christmas Christmas Film Ever Made
The seminal Die Hard film began on Christmas Eve (though it was actually released in July) and sees our not-yet hero John McClane travel to LA to spend Christmas with his wife. They planned to spend the evening in the fictional Nakatomi Plaza (Pointless fact alert: It's really Twentieth Century Fox's official headquarters) but of course, nothing quite goes to plan and pretty soon the building is besieged by German terrorists. This sets in motion the plot for "just some ordinary guy wanting to get home to spend the holiday season with his family" ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time, and in actual fact, when you think about it, the first Die Hard film actually did make for something of a Christmas film, right down to the famous "Now I have a machine gun, ho-ho-ho" scene (above) as well as the fact that it has family togetherness, Christmas music, and the added bonus of terrorists roasting on an open rooftop, of course. Die Hard (like any Christmas film) is a movie you can watch with the whole family. Even your grandma knows what McClane's catchphrase is. Yippe-ki-yay mother...
