5 Reasons Why You Should Ignore The Critics On Rock Of Ages
3. Pour Some Songs On Me
That mention of Europes most famous anthem brings me on to my third point. Although The Final Countdown doesnt make the transition over from the original production to the movie (and rightly so, I cant see where it would have fitted in), Rock Of Ages is absolutely packed with classic rock hits sure to provoke a wave of nostalgia for 80s and 90s music and indeed teach some of the kids the tracks that they ought to be listening to. Admittedly, classics such as (deep breath) Paradise City; Just Like Paradise; Juke Box Hero; Shadows Of The Night; Any Way You Want It; Rock You Like A Hurricane; Dont Stop Belieivn and countless others are thrown into the mix at such a pace that it can occasionally become a little overwhelming and Glee-esque, an element of the film that I have no doubt has turned away some critics from it. Given the extensive fanbase of that aforementioned US musical comedy-drama, though, the mixed reviews from critics really seem to be having an effect on ticket sales as if more fans knew that shows happy-go-lucky tone carries over to this film, I reckon thered be a much more positive word-of-mouth. Ive heard nothing but praise from those of my colleagues whove seen it so far, and so in many ways its only the true critics who are labelling it with a bad name to the wider public. Had there been a few more trailers showing off the great set list, I imagine the production team and Warner Brothers would have had no problem commissioning a sequel by now.
