5 Reasons You’ll Always Wrongly Think Your Era Is The Best In Cinema

4. It's The Only Era You Fully See

This is something in a way quite depressing. For the majority of the film going public, you will have the greatest exposure to cinema as you are growing up. As a child, you€™re free to immerse yourself in films and through teen years a trip to the cinema becomes a symbolic show of independence. Without a myriad of commitment it is easy for even a casual interest in film to entail almost full awareness of most releases. But by the time you€™ve grown up and are starting a job, it is incredibly easy for life to get in the way. Even if you avidly follow film developments, keeping up with seeing the movies is difficult; whereas before you€™d have seen everything from the biggest blockbuster to the smallest indie, a lot of it passes over you. I know for a fact I would have never seen anything starring Kevin James if his family comedies weren€™t plastered over the multiplexes as I've grown up. Whereas the times before you only see presented through cultural hindsight and after are fragmented through a busy life, the only era that you have a fully rounded view of is the one where you were growing up. People not only were likely to see the most films at this time, but to know the overlying themes and understand how film has evolved; with understanding come enjoyment. All these points have been pushing towards a conclusion, which is the final point on the next page. It may be an obvious one that we€™re all aware of, but it still has a strong influence over why we all trumpet our own era above all others.
