5 Reasons You’ll Always Wrongly Think Your Era Is The Best In Cinema

3. Children Are Not Objective Viewers

Think back to what your favourite films were as a kid. Sure, some of them may stand the test of time, but the odds are a fair majority were poor movies that still managed to entertain you at the time. The simple fact is that kids just aren€™t as objective as adults. Something full of nothing but bright colours and funny actions may not appeal to the more discerning viewer, but it is perfectly satisfactory in keeping children happy (within reason of course). And most kid€™s films are like that, it€™s just we don€™t go back to check them out once we grow up. So when a fleeting comment on how much better kid€™s films were in the past is made, it is often made with too much detachment; children today are not just happy, but joyed by current child cinema in the same way we all were, it€™s just we now have a level of quality. I remember seeing Shark Tale and it being the first time I left the cinema actually underwhelmed and it was an extremely bizarre feeling; it was the cinema, it was bright film, but I hadn€™t enjoyed it. And that was only because I was a year or two too old to enjoy it, not because it was particularly inferior than what I€™d seen before (well, it was Shark Tale, but you get the idea).
