http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiAFv71f9LA Majority Verdict: Though not as rapturously received as the other films on this list, Kick-Ass racked up an impressive 76% on the Tomatometer, and was a huge hit with comic book fans the world over. Ebert's Review: From his first paragraph, Roger seems well aware that he's going to rattle a lot of cages - "Will I seem hopelessly square if I find Kick-Ass morally reprehensible and will I appear to have missed the point?" He questions the film's "comic" violence and also remarks that it's a morally repugnant film that places a child in violent action scenes without any consequences or exploration of its effects on her ("Big Daddy and Mindy never have a chat about, you know, stuff like how when you kill people, they are really dead. This movie regards human beings like video-game targets"). Ebert seems concerned about the impact the film will have on kids, but then, the film's rated 18 (or R in the US), so this argument seems sort of moot. One cannot be responsible for bad parenting. Ebert resolves that the film is filled with great actors and some good ideas, but can't get past the trickier aspects of the narrative. Sure, it's not going to be for everyone, and at least Ebert's critique made a lot more sense than the ridiculous hate campaigns - for similar yet poorly conveyed reasons - by dishrags like The Daily Mail.
