1. Alan Rickman - Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves
Here's a fun challenge... take an hour or so and try to find a movie with a
worse accent than Kevin Costner in Robin Hood. Go ahead, I'll wait. Couldn't do it, could you? That's because Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is an exercise in lazy filmmaking. Many characters and plot points were lifted directly from the Robin of Sherwood television series. Anything they didn't lift straight from the show was confusing, pointless, or depressing. And a large compilation of aimless battle scenes. The performances are wooden, and there seems to be no redeeming value to the film, except... Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham. Amidst this terrible mess, he delivers a great performance despite the bad dialogue written for him. By time the end of the film (finally) comes around, you'll probably find yourself rooting for the Sheriff rather than Robin Hood, and you'll be sad when he loses. Another excellent performance comes from Morgan Freeman, but he shares lots of screentime with Kevin Costner, so that drags the quality of his scenes down some. Bottom line, avoid this movie. Shoot, the production on this was so bad the Mel Brooks parody Robin Hood: Men In Tights is better. Watch that instead.
So what do you think? Any other great performances in bad movies we've missed? Sound off in the comments below.
