1. 28 Days Later (2002)
I liked to think my zombie plan was bulletproof and I would survive a zombie apocalypse or infected virus spreading pandemic. However after watching Danny Boyle's take on an infected ridden mainland United Kingdom, with an infection that turns people into a rage running killing spree maniac, I was proven wrong. There are so many suspenseful scenes that really do leave everyone on the edge of their seats and even re-watching for the tenth time it still has the same effect. The constant feeling of knowing that the survivors are totally alone and can get attacked at any random moment fills the atmosphere with anxiety. There are countless scenes in 28 Days Later that makes you want to look away; the first chilling encounter of the infected at the church and the intense chase, then the bedroom scene where Selena ends up killing Mark, brutally chopping his arm off first. Then there's the horrific Blackwall Tunnel scene, where the survivors had to replace a punctured tire with the infected on their tail. The most terrifying and tense moment is when Jim and Selena have to walk up the apartment complex stairs. The infected give chase and the only way to escape is climbing more stairs. Running up countless stairs, exhausted, carrying a heavy bag, the last thing I would want is a ruthless sprinting infected zombie chasing after me.
