5 Theories That Help Explain David Lynch's Mulholland Drive

3, What Does The Blue Key And Blue Box Mean?

Key At the end of Mulholland Drive Betty is seen as a washed up actress whose life of becoming a Hollywood star has led her to the slums of Hollywood and drug addiction. Betty is seen meeting up with a hitman at the dinner Winkies which again is seen throughout the duration of the film. She gives the Hitman a photo of Camilla and large sum of money. She is then told that when the hit is done Betty will receive a blue key. The symbolism between the blue key and box is the plotting and the assassination of Camilla. In the beginning of the film Rita has the blue key in her bag and when the blue box is discovered she disappears. This symbolism means that when the blue key and box finally meet the assassination is complete. This is Betty€™s subconscious trying to remind her she actually ordered a hit on Camilla killing her.
