5 Things Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Should Include

1. Roger Moore

As a much loved character, it is possible that Alpha Papa was produced as something of a last hurrah for Alan Partridge. Like The Office Christmas Specials, one final outing that ends with a full sense of closure that allows classic characters to end on a high rather than over stay their welcome. You only have to look back at the references to the former James Bond actor in Knowing Me Knowing You and I'm Alan Partridge, as well as the clues to Alpha Papa, to realise that a cameo by Roger Moore would be a great way to achieve this. Moore was booked as the star guest in the first episode of TV series Knowing Me Knowing You, but despite regular updates of his progress through traffic, never made it to the studio on time. Later in I'm Alan Partridge, all his James Bond video tapes are ruined just prior to his bank holiday Bondathon, and so he acts out the opening credits to Moore film, The Spy Who Loved Me, in an act of curious frustration. Moore is obviously Partridge's personal hero, and if Alpha Papa is indeed the action comedy the trailer shows it to be, then surely we will see this admiration influence Partridge' actions. Surely he is picturing himself as Moore when confirming to himself that he alone is "Siegeface". Thinking about it logically, it's hard to see how the film would have anything other than a happy ending (even David Brent managed to earn his); as a parody/satire of the siege genre, it is not so much the tension of the outcome that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, as the comedy of how Partridge goes about it. Possibly in a similar ending to Coogan's other crime comedy The Parole Officer, Partridge should no doubt be rewarded for his bravery (even if he hinders rather than helps the ending of Pat's take-over) and so meeting his idol would be a fitting reward for however he deals with the siege, as only he can.
