5 Things Ghostbusters Haters Have Already Done To Make The Film Fail
3. Accusing Critics Of Being Paid Off
The fan-critic debate has run rampant in
2016 (for a better look at why, check out my two-part discussion), with one of the biggest
battles being over the allegation that critics are being paid to give
positive/negative reviews of certain films.
This has come round again and again, when Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and X-Men: Apocalypse were trashed and conversely when Captain America: Civil War was lauded (and let me categorically state here it isn’t true – I disliked the former two and loved the latter and haven’t seen a penny), and is once again rearing its head with Ghostbusters.
An image of a post from reddit inciting such a response has gone viral, although that's a bit misleading; it was actually a parody post intended to highlight the conflict. But while that being picked up by the press does show a willingness (to some degree) to show there is hate, that doesn't mean others haven't taken up the banner with sincerity:
Obviously it makes the reviews sound cheap, although to make that claim forgets how most people who have a site sizeable enough to be eligible for Rotten Tomatoes certification will have worked their way up with a love of movies and wouldn't just give that up for a brief payday.
