5 Things Robert Pattinson Needs to Know About Lawrence of Arabia

2. The Final Copy of Seven Pillars of Wisdom Had To Be Re-written Three Times!

His autobiography The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is an invaluable source of information on so many levels. Without it we wouldn€™t have as clear a picture of the political machinations taking place in the Middle East at the onset of the twentieth century; we also wouldn€™t understand Lawrence€™s own ambitions and the details of his life would have been left for others to misconstrue, or make up entirely, which, considering the transient oversimplification of his image over the past century from €˜hero to homo,€™ (type €˜Was Lawrence ...€™ into google) would have been a tragedy of unimaginable gravitas. In fact, his original manuscript had to be re-written three times! Not because of mean, grumbling editors (of which the editors of WhatCulture are not, honest!) but instead because he managed to keep on losing them! What does this tell us about the man? It tells us he was bloody persistent, is what! Alright, it may also tell us that he was true to the €˜historian mantel€™ of €˜absentmindedness€™ considering he even managed to lose one manuscript on a train platform in Reading! But mostly it tells us that he was dogged in all of his pursuits even when the obstacles were those brought up by himself. This €˜singlemindedness€™ rather than his €˜absentmindedness€™ is an aspect of T. E. Lawrence that is well worth bringing to light in €˜Queen of the Desert€™. It attempts to explain the exploits he carried out and could go some way into justifying how Naomi Watts could ever be inspired to do more than swoon at Robert Pattinson€™s jaw-line. Come on Rpattz, now€™s your thespian moment to shine!

A. J. S. Scott was created as a homunculus by a mad English Alchemist who was trying to make rum from ink and seawater. He is still a fan of both and he has no comment on what happened to all the ‘No Exit’ signs in Islington Underground Station when he visited for Beltaine. You can send him missives by bribing the Right Raven with sour-strings, or: Instagram: @ajsscott Tumblr: andrew-scott-things.tumblr.com
