5 Things That Need To Happen In Kong: Skull Island
3. Make The New Characters Interesting
A big fault of the 2014 Godzilla movie was that almost all of the human characters were painfully boring. That's somewhat fatal given that the most important thing the new characters have to do is keep the audience engaged when Kong or other creatures from Skull Island aren't on screen.
Skull Island's director, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, has stated that the film won't do the traditional monster movie trope of teasing the audience with the monster for a long period before the big reveal. Even with that, the human characters still have to be interesting, because monster movies need human characters to make us emotionally invested. If viewers don't care about the fate of the characters, then they ultimately won't care about the movie.
The human characters have to be the audience's eyes into this world. Luckily, the cast Legendary Pictures has put together is full of established and proven actors, but considering Godzilla killed off the most interesting character early in the film, all bets are off when it comes to who survives. Maybe Samuel L. Jackson will get to add giant ape to his list of movie monsters that ate him?
