2. Spin Offs
The possibility of a full character arc for Dick Grayson, opens the door for a number of different spin offs in the Batman franchise. Batmans world is much like that of the X-Men, despite the fact that its part of a larger continuity, it has more than enough characters to sustain itself on its own. All of the villains and the supporting characters provide a number of different options to expand the series. Obviously Dick himself would be an ideal candidate, we could follow his journey as he discards the Robin identity and leaves Gotham to become the protector of Blüdhaven. In his wake Batman could come across Jason or Tim, with a cameo from Dick, offering advice to his successor. It doesnt have to stop there; we know Alan Moore isnt found of adaptations but why not have a Killing Joke movie? For a great number of people it probably seems that it will be impossible to ever get the image of Heath Ledger out of their minds, but once upon a time the same was said of Jack Nicholson. A Killing Joke movie could be an excellent standalone film for the clown prince of crime, and it could also provide Warner Bros.( presumably through the CW) with a second crack at Oracle and Birds of Prey, if they so choose. What about an actual Catwoman movie or if DC really want to push the boat out, Batman Beyond? Though Batman should always be the centre of the franchise, there is so much more to Gotham than just him and it doesnt have to stop with films. For years people have been clamouring for an adaption of Gotham Central, which for those who dont know is a comic book about the everyday cops of the Gotham City Police Department. Marvel will soon expand to television with Agents of Shield, why cant DC do the same with Gotham Central? Fans have been saying for years that its a no brainer, police procedural + Batman= success. Obviously any potential spin off would require world building and would be years away, but with a bit of patience from the creators and the audience, Batman could be the centre of his own dynasty.
