1. The Depiction Of Batman
There are times that I genuinely wonder if anyone who hasnt read comic books realises that Batman is meant to be a detective. The character was introduced in Detective Comics way back in 1939 and continuing the Sherlock Holmes analogy, is considered to be The Worlds Greatest Detective in the DC Universe. Batman isnt Superman, he doesnt have superpowers to fall back on, and he wait around until he hears someone in China cry for help. As well as stopping the occasional crimes he comes across, Bruce Wayne has to seek out those that would break the law, he has to investigate. A very important aspect to the relationship of Batman and Commissioner Gordon is that they have so much in common. A part of the reason that Gordon trusts Batman is that he sees him as a fellow protector of the innocent; one that doesnt have to function within the parameters of the law. Previous Batman films have lightly touched upon the detective aspect of his character, such as the big brother like tracking device in The Dark Knight, or putting The Riddlers clues together in Batman Forever, but there can be more. Why not make a film in which Batman has to truly put his detective skills to the test? This could even tie into further crossover movies with Superman, as Batman seeks to prove that Lex Luthor is a criminal, and passes on his findings to Clark Kent and Lois Lane who then expose the villain for the world to see. Maybe The Dark Knight could investigate who sabotaged The Flying Graysons performance, thus orphaning the future Robin Dick Grayson. One thing that should be held over from the Nolan films is the depiction of Batmans aversion to killing. The Burton/Schumacher era Batmans utter disregard for the safety of others is astounding, as is Christian Bales ridiculous voice in the Nolan films. The Affleck Batman should take a page out of Kevin Conroys book, he should make it abundantly clear that Bruce Wayne is the mask and Batman is the person. Yes Bale did this in a way, with the girls in the hotel and throwing people out of his party, but it should be taken further. Rather than appearing as simply a playboy, the fake Bruce should come off as complete douche, a male Paris Hilton. This way the only woman that Bruce Wayne could attract would be stuck up, gold digging socialites; this would help explain why he chooses women like Catwoman and Talia Al Ghul- aside from the obvious. Mopey Michael Keaton somehow managed to get Vicki Vale, Christian Bales playboy lost Rachael to Harvey Dent, this Bruce Wayne should make it clear how bored he is of airheads and seek out excitement with Selina Kyle. What would you like to see from the new batman, would it be something different or more of the same? Let me know in the comments.
