5 Things To Watch Before Captain America: The Winter Soldier
2. All The President's Men
The last part in Alan J. Pakula's paranoia trilogy not only boasts a plot about distrusting the US government - just like Captain America: The Winter Soldier! - it also features Robert Redford in a starring role - just like Captain America: The Winter Soldier! Whilst the aforementioned other films of the era were informed by the feeling of discontent felt across the States following the Watergate scandal and Richard Nixon's resignation, All The President's Men was the only one to tackle it head on, documenting the investigations by two journalists for The Washington Post who delved into the fishy goings on surrounding a break-in at the Democratic Party headquarters. Slowly but surely, Redford's Bob Woodward and Dustin Hoffman's Carl Bernstein uncover a thoroughly undemocratic conspiracy, and - fancy that - it goes all the way to the top! Whilst it's sadly lacking in any exploding cars, crashing helicarriers, or Scarlett Johansson, All The President's Men is an incredibly engrossing and really eerie film which apparently informed the feel and complexity of the new Cap.
