5 Things We Learned From Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck

1. He Tried to Kill Himself (Again) When Courtney Love (Almost) Cheated On Him.

On March 3, 1994, one month before his death, Kurt slipped into a overdose-induced coma in Rome during the band's European tour. This overdose and near-death experience was well reported in the media and is common knowledge. However, in Montage of Heck, Courtney Love reveals that the reason Kurt attempted to overdose was because she had €œthought about cheating on him€ while in England. While it€™s understandable to be upset about your wife cheating, the manner in which Kurt responded to his wife€™s thoughts of betrayal shows how neurotic he was at the end of his life, and how he did not value his life despite the souring levels of fame and success he had craved throughout his twenty seven years. The tragedy of his suicide is highlighted in the final segment of the film as powerful footage from Nirvana: Unplugged in New York is shown before fading to black, and as the documentary ends we are left to reflect on Kurt€™s life in an entirely different way, with a newfound appreciation for the Nirvana frontman.
