5 Times Nicolas Cage's Film Meltdowns Worked (And 5 Times They Didn't)
1. Good: Big Daddy Burns (Kick- Ass, 2010)
Leading up to the his horrifying death, Cage (playing Big Daddy) doesn't have any outrageous meltdown scenes of note but his performance in his final moments more than makes up for it.
Similar to The Wicker Man (this is where the comparison of these films ends by the way) Nicolas Cage is once again burned to death but, unlike the aforementioned film, Cage is able to make his last words sound passionate, heartfelt and full of pain as he screams code worded instructions to his 10 year old daughter. The best instruction being when he yells "Switch to Kryptonite" which he delivers in such a way that it makes him sound like he is the lead singer in a hair metal band.
Throughout this film, Cage (who plays Big Daddy) is relatively calm and subdued in his mannerisms despite being a vigilante superhero who is training his 10 year old daughter to be an assassin. He plays the role of a typical caring Dad/badass killer so well in Kick Ass thus showing the full range of his acting abilities.
Although the pun was certainly unintended, Big Daddy burning to death whilst encouraging his young daughter crowns the list for best and hauntingly chilling (ahem) melt-down.
