5 Upcoming Films That Will Make 2015 The Biggest Year For Cinema Ever

4. The Avengers 2 (May 1st 2015)

Who isn't excited for the next chapter in The Avengers saga? The first film sits as the third highest grossing film ever at the box office and is almost universally considered one of, if not the greatest film of this year. From now until the films release, this film also has the best and most effective marketing strategy in the form of Iron Man 3, Captain America 2: Winter Soldier, Thor 2: The Dark World and Guardians of The Galaxy... not to mention the Joss Whedon helmed S.H.I.E.L.D TV series. As is almost the tradition with most Marvel movies (or comic book movies generally) , the sequels generally out perform the first movies and I can't imagine this film will be any different. Maybe Avatar 2 will out perform Avatar 1 at the box office, but The Avengers 2 will be hot on its tail. Although James Cameron is the master at sequels, you shouldn't rule Joss Whedon out either. Not only is Joss Whedon his biggest critic and himself has admitted since The Avengers release that there were many flaws with the movie- in fact arguably the reason he took the gig of making the sequel is to improve upon the story he has already started- but Joss Whedon also has a pretty good history in crafting great sequels. Of his 4 TV series's he was the show runner for, only 3 of these regrettably were lucky enough to be given second seasons, and of those three second seasons (Buffy, Angel and Dollhouse) they are all considered far better than the first seasons. In fact, with the exception of Angel, Dollhouse Season 2 is considered the best in the entire series (there were only 2 seasons though) and Buffy Season 2 is also considered the best of the 7 season show by most of its audience and critics. Unlike he had with the first film, Joss Whedon now has more of a creative control over the entire Marvel Universe and can help guide the individual films being released before The Avengers 2 (or as it may unfortunately be called in the UK... The Avengers Assemble Again)... so the second film in what is likely to be a trilogy is bound to succeed. Also, consider the history of sequels in comic book movies... Spider-Man 2, X-2, The Dark Knight... this film is almost guaranteed to be better than the first.

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future. (As of January 2013 I have had over 1 million views since joining WhatCulture in September 2012. You can reach me at danieljamesbowen@hotmail.co.uk)
