5 Upcoming Literature-Based Movies We Can't Wait To See

2. Winter's Tale

After Child Of God and As I Lay Dying, Winter's Tale is going to seem like a welcome break from thinking too hard. The book was originally written by Mark Helprin in 1983, and is the supernatural time-crossing tale based in New York of an early 1900s thief called Peter Lake, who falls in love with a woman whose house he attempts to rob; the story then fast forwards to the present day where Lake finds himself inexplicably still alive. With big names like Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe (and even Lady Sybil from Downton Abbey - Jessica Brown Findlay), this is likely to be a more blockbuster friendly version of a book that was originally profoundly complicated. After In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, we know Colin Farrell can act, and the same can be said of Russell Crowe, so all that's left now is whether or not writer/director Akiva Goldsman can translate this piece of literature correctly to the cinema screen. From the trailer at least, things are looking good.
