5 Vomit-Inducing Amputation Scenes In Movies

4. "Hold Him Down" (The Ruins, 2008)

You might be surprised by some of the things you'll see in Carter Smith's 2008 horror thriller which focuses on 4 American tourists in Mexico who meet up with a German named Mathias and join him on his search for his missing brother. Their search leads them to a mysterious Mayan ruin where people have a tendency to disappear. Following a string of bad ideas the German - Mathias - ends up falling down a shaft that leaves him with two broken legs. After a night of rest Mathias wakes to find his legs have been eaten down to the bone by a sinister looking plant that has attached itself to him. As the condition of Mathias' legs worsens his 4 American friends are forced to amputate them to prevent the spread of infection and to stop the plant eating any more of him. You can imagine what happens next. Imagine how Mathias feels after being reassured he "wont feel a thing" as his bones are smashed to pieces with a rock and then messily hacked off with a knife. He feels every agonising moment and so do we as we're forced to watch. The wound is then cauterized using a hot frying pan. It would almost be comedic if it wasn't absolutely excruciating to watch.
